ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini vs Grok: Which AI Is Best for What?

By Tobava Team  ·  October 15, 2026  ·  7 min read

Four AI assistants dominate in 2026: OpenAI's ChatGPT, Anthropic's Claude, Google's Gemini and xAI's Grok. Each company releases new versions every few months, and benchmark leaderboards reshuffle just as often. So instead of declaring a winner that will be out of date by next season, this guide focuses on the differences that tend to last: what each one is built for and what it feels like to use.

The short version

AssistantStrongest atWeaker at
ChatGPTAll-round everyday help, a broad set of built-in toolsCan be wordy; tends to please rather than push back
ClaudeWriting quality, long documents, coding, careful reasoningFewer built-in extras such as image generation
GeminiGoogle integration, images and video, very long inputsMost useful if you already use Google services
GrokReal-time trends and posts from X, a looser toneLess polished for formal or professional writing

ChatGPT: the generalist

ChatGPT is the safest default if you want one assistant for everything. It handles questions, drafting, summarising, brainstorming and basic analysis well, and it has the widest set of built-in tools: voice, image generation, file analysis and web browsing. Its main weakness is style. Answers can be long and eager to agree with you, so ask it to be brief and to point out problems if that is what you want.

Claude: the writer and the careful thinker

Claude is often the favourite of people who write for a living and of software developers. Its prose tends to sound more natural, it holds onto details across long documents, and it is good at following detailed instructions. It is also more willing to say "I'm not sure" or disagree, which is useful when accuracy matters. It offers fewer novelty features than ChatGPT, but for writing, editing, code and analysis it is very strong.

Gemini: the one that knows your Google account

Gemini's advantage is integration. It can work with Gmail, Docs, Drive and other Google services, and it handles images, video and very long inputs well. If your work already lives in Google, that convenience is hard to beat. Outside that ecosystem, it is a capable assistant but less distinctive.

Grok: the real-time, unfiltered one

Grok is built by xAI and connected to X (formerly Twitter). That makes it good at "what are people saying about this right now" questions and at following breaking news. It has a deliberately casual, sometimes irreverent tone. Some people love that; for formal writing or sensitive topics you may prefer one of the others.

Which should you use?

The best test: ask them all the same question

Comparison articles, including this one, can only tell you so much. The models are close enough that the right choice comes down to your own work. Take a real task, such as an email you need to write or a document you need summarised, and give the same prompt to two or three assistants. Within a few tries you will know which one's answers you trust and enjoy reading.

The catch is that doing this means juggling several accounts and subscriptions. That is the problem Tobava AI Plus is designed to solve: GPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok in one place, under one plan, with your chats never used to train AI models. It is coming soon, and you can create a free Tobava account now to use free AI chat in the meantime.
